Design & Build of
a New Water Bottling Facility
IN BRIEF
The French company, ROXANE, is a distributor of high quality bottled water and a leader in the distribution of spring and mineral waters in Europe. To aid their penetration and development of the UK market, ROXANE appointed Bouygues Energies & Services as the principle contractor responsible for the development of their first water and soft drink bottling plant in the UK; situated at Fradley Park in Litchfield, Staffordshire. The new plant will have the capacity for 68,000 bottles of water per hour and will connect to an existing aircraft hangar which will function as warehousing space.

Context
The project was challenging from the outset, due to the lack of design information available, but Bouygues Energies & Services worked closely with ROXANE’s team in France to understand their production requirements and their process equipment and development strategies within the UK.
Our Service
Our novel Design & Build solution included the construction of a new production filling and packaging facility, plant room and offices. We also installed the equipment required to maintain ideal environmental parameters for the facility, such as chilled and cooling water, compressed air 7 and 40 bar, nitrogen and three air handling units.
For security and safety of the facility we installed new transformers and substantiation capable of 2.5 MVA, distribution boards, lighting, CCTV and fire alarms. Due to the location of the facility and the nature of the local land, we also installed flood defence and rainwater attenuation systems to help the facility cope with the associated water table and ground conditions.
Given that the project required the relocation of complex process equipment from around Europe, we implemented careful coordination and expert planning with regards to forming, filling and packaging machinery services and power supplies, to support ROXANE in ensuring compatibility and compliance with British standards.
