The renewable energy sector is showing promising growth in the United Kingdom. The country stands out for the government assistance provided to low-carbon energy sources. This policy created an opportunity for AssetGen Partners, a special purpose vehicle, to invest in the construction of a waste-to-energy biomass gasification plant in Hoddesdon (Hertfordshire) in the UK. Bouygues Energies & Services won the contract for this complex, large-scale energy infrastructure project. This new biomass plant will improve waste management efficiency in the UK by reducing volumes sent to landfill. More than 90,000 tonnes of waste to be used as fuel and generated by the local commercial and industrial sectors will be supplied by two of the UK’s leading waste suppliers. The plant will generate 10 MWe of power. This represents a yearly net supply of green electricity to the grid of 76,000 MWh, enough to meet the needs of around 7,000 households. This is the largest waste-to-energy gasification plant in the UK.
Bouygues Energies & Services provides end-to-end solutions that are adapted to the project’s features:
- Engineering expertise and supply of equipment for the plant.
- The design-build of the plant.
- Operation/maintenance of the plant for an initial period of 10 years.
