Ensuring a smooth manufacturing process, an adequate supply and storage of different products, GSK appointed Bouygues Energies & Services as principal contractor for the Design & Build of a new Cold store facility complying with complex GxP, MHRA and FMGlobal requirements for raw materials and finished product storage.
The new cold store facility allows storage of 1400 pallets for chemical and pharmaceutical raw materials and products; a small area for label printing and stock management; and a stock associated plant. All products must be stored within a temperature range of +2° to +8°C.
In line with the stringent FM Global compliance and global GSK regulations, Bouygues Energies & Services deployed a turnkey Design & Build solutions that offers:
- Construction of a new cold store facility with roller shutter, door entrances and wire guidance system to support the use of Fork Lift Track and High Racking plan
- Novel cooling system operating continuously with duty standby arrangement in place
- High level of temperature monitoring system keeping an ambient temperature range of +2° to +8°C (to be maintained 150mm from the ground and walls, 500mm from the ceiling).
- A dry sprinkler system has been installed operating on a two knock system which conforms to the factory mutual requirements
- Energy efficient lighting system
- Tie in systems for electrical power for lighting, small power, ventilation control and fire protection purposes
The new warehouse is a highly insulated facility by two knocks dry sprinkler systems, designed and built with FM Global compliance.

Zero Downtime
Bouygues Energies & Services team developed a holistic approach based on de-risk strategies to allow the full uninterrupted operation of the existing site, while the new facility was being built adjacent.
New cold store facility providing a secure and appropriate environment with a requirement for a segregated area for the different products.
Enhancing uninterrupted accessibility of products and materials by operating seven days a week to organise the flow of materials to/from production and to dispatch to GSK clients.
Guaranteeing quality and safety of the storage of the materials and temperature secure materials affected by heat by keeping store in an even temperature distribution tolerance < +/-2.5°C.
