Context
The €100-million contract with GEA to build a new dual-fuel power plant will ensure the energy self-sufficiency of Gibraltar’s 30,000 inhabitants for the next 30 years, while also complying with European standards on pollution and noise.
Our service
Bouygues Energies & Services has deployed turnkey solutions for the design, construction and procurement of equipment for this latest-generation power plant:
- Design, build and environmental impact feasibility studies
- Supply and commissioning of six gas and oil turbines each with 14 cylinders and weighing 300 tonnes.
- Civil engineering
- Procurement of electrical and mechanical components
- Installation of a system to recover heat from exhaust gases
- Commissioning of the entire facility with testing and connection to the local grid
Installation work was carried out in a cramped area close to built-up zones, without disrupting the operation of the existing power plants. The work involved 150 employees at peak periods. Handover is scheduled for 2017.
